Challenge 20/20 Programme

Mzuzu Academy year 9 students are participating in the Challenge 20/20 Programme. This is a yearly programme organised by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) based in the US.

The programme aims at providing an excellent foundation for meaningful problem-solving and cross -continent relationships that lead to a more promising global future for students and schools.

Mr. Deous Kumwenda, the Deputy Headmaster will be the teacher leader. Mzuzu Academy has two partner schools in the US and Qatar and they will be discussing deforestation. The discussions will be done via internet. Our students will have an opportunity to use blogs when interacting with their fellow students overseas.

Science and culture film making at Mzuzu Academy - October 2011

Year 8 students at Mzuzu Academy are involved in a unique opportunity to learn how to make films on science and culture. Mzuzu Academy is one of four schools and the only Malawian school participating in this project. The three week program is part of a research project that aims to investigate the effectiveness of educational programs delivered through a collaborative project between universities in West Australia; University of Western Australia and Curtin University and two educational institutions the Gravity Discovery Centre (GDC) ad the Graham Polly Farmer Foundation. The research is funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC).

Muza Gondwe is a PhD student at UWA who is conducting this program. She is training students how to use cameras, film, direct and edit a three minute video that combines science and culture. The three week program culminates in a community screening where friends and family are invited to watch the students’ production. Other activities in the program include a science and culture story box where students explore scientific and cultural knowledge from different Indigenous cultures.
