Mr. Harrison Kalua - Chairman

Mr. H. Kalua has over 22 years experience in the coffee industry, specializing in coffee production, processing and marketing. He has successfully managed the Small holder coffee industry in Malawi where he works as a CEO of Mzuzu Coffee Planters Cooperative Union. Nominated Best Business Man in Malawi for 2005, he is the president of MCCCI, SADC Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Vice President of COMESA Business Council.

Mr. Dan Harawa - Vice Chairman

Mr. Mwiza Mtawali - Board Treasurer

Mwiza Anderson Mtawali is a Registered Engineer with Malawi Board of Engineers with vast experience in structural and water supply engineering. He taught at the University of Malawi, the Polytechnic for a period of ten years. He was head of the Department of Civil Engineering during his last three years at the University and presented a number of papers at various international conferences on Moringa Oleifera as a natural coagulant. In addition he had carried out a number of structural consultancies ranging from multi-story buildings to bridge design. For the last thirteen years he has been working for the Northern Region Water Board as Engineering Manager responsible for management, operation, maintenance of the Board’s water supply systems in the Northern Region of Malawi. He is also responsible for design and construction supervision of rehabilitation and extension of the water supply systems including design of raw water sources and supervising local and international consultants and contractors.

Mrs. C. Chinula - Board Secretary

Born and brought up in New Zealand where she met her husband Lewis, a scholarship student from Malawi. Mrs. Chinula has lived in Mzuzu for over 20 years where she has been involved with a number of development projects.  She currently works in an administrative role for the Eva de Maya Foundation, a Health and Development project. In addition she is a Trustee for the Nyika Vwaza Trust, as well as co-ordinator for Pestalozzi Malawi. She is a committee member of both the Prison Support Trust and the Wildlife Society in Mzuzu.

Father. J. Ryan - Board Member

John A. Ryan (BA, MA, PhD in Pure and Abstract Mathematics)
Ordained a Catholic Priest in St Patrick's Missionary Society in 1978 and has worked continuously in Mzuzu Diocese both in Pastoral Work and in Education from 1978 to date.  Presently, along with having several responsibilities within Mzuzu Diocese, he is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Mzuzu University and is responsible for bringing the first Post Graduate Programme to Mzuzu University.  He is also Founder of Ungweru, an Information and Youth Centre based in Luwinga, Mzuzu.

Colin Williams, OBE – Board Member

Colin spent 22 years with ActionAid, where he was responsible for setting up country programmes in Somalia, Uganda and Malawi, then became Africa Director running the whole region for seven years. He was part of the successful response to HIV & AIDS in Uganda and helped set up the influential NGO, TASO, in that country. Since 2003 he has been involved widely in various trustee, management and coaching roles in Africa and the UK. Colin brings all of that experience to the Egmont Trust: an organisational and management approach that promotes minimal bureaucracies, space, trust and focus, and a belief founded in practice that the impact of HIV & AIDS can actually be reduced substantially, even eliminated. He holds a BA in Economics from Sheffield, an MA from Carleton University, Ottawa, and completed the World Bank Executive Programme at Harvard University. Colin was awarded an OBE in 2002 for services to fighting poverty in Africa.

Anna Msowoya Keys - Founder & President, Maloto

Anna Msowoya Keys is the Founder & President of Maloto, a US based NGO dedicated to supporting local initiatives in northern Malawi. Born and raised in northern Malawi, Msowoya Keys possesses a unique understanding of Malawi and the challenges the country faces, particularly those resulting from the devastation of HIV/AIDS. Anna was one of eight children and has lost four sisters to AIDS. It was at her sister’s funeral in 2003 that Anna decided she needed to find a way to give back to her community.

Anna has more than 20 years of experience working with some of Africa’s most disadvantaged populations. Her extensive humanitarian aid work includes Action Aid, the American based Women’s Commission for Refugee Women and Children and the International Rescue Committee. In recognition of her support for the women of Malawi, Anna was the first recipient of the Whole Women Healing Award: “Women of Compassion” in 2007. Anna divides her time between New York, NY & Malawi.
