Dear Parents,

Welcome to 2011-2012 school year Family Handbook. Let me tell you more about the school.

The Mzuzu Academy was founded in order to provide an international centre of academic excellence in the northern region of Malawi. It is a non-profit making institution run by a Board of Directors, all of whom are distinguished professionals in a variety of fields.

The campus is located in the beautifully green countryside setting of Nkhorongo, a recently developed area encompassing the new Mzuzu University developments approximately 10 km from the town centre. It is a place of peace and serenity, far from the distractions of city life, ideal for quiet concentration and study. This handbook reflects our effort to place all policies, procedures and guidance in one place. We hope that you find this useful. The handbook will always be open to suggestions for improvement, and we will invite your observations and suggestions for future editions. Our goal is always to build upon our excellent facilities to provide your children with a world-class international education. Throughout this year we shall be focusing our attention upon the quality of learning and teaching we offer you and your children. All teachers will participate in professional development activities throughout the school year with an aim to improve and support their practice, ensuring that teachers of different professional, personal and cultural backgrounds have a shared understanding of the professional expectations. We continue to see this as a focus for Mzuzu Academy and strive to always grow! This type of ongoing professional program will keep us at the forefront of international schools in Malawi.

As parents you must hold us accountable to this commitment to quality. Please contact me directly if you have a concern regarding our commitment to you or if you have suggestions to assist our focus on constant improvement.
