Dear Boarders,

I want to welcome you to your new home at Mzuzu Academy, Mzuzu, Malawi. As a boarder you will experience many unique and wonderful opportunities. It will be the chance for you to meet and interact with students who, like you, will gain so much from the special friendships with other boarders and staff members. Together with the staff, you will form a close and supportive community. I am sure that you will experience all the benefits and pleasures of being a part of this extended family.

Our aim at Mzuzu Academy is to achieve and promote excellence, help you develop your leadership potential, and create a sense of belonging in our environment. The Board of Directors, School Leadership Team, Teachers and Houseparents are all committed to fulfilling this aim. We want to ensure that your academic experience is as successful and meaningful for you as possible. We also want to provide you with enjoyable social activities. Our staff hopes to develop a relationship with you based on trust and understanding, as your emotional needs are very important to us.

This Boarding Handbook has been prepared to give you and your parents’ information about life as a boarder at the Boarding Hostels, at Mzuzu Academy. We have tried to include all relevant and important topics in an effort to prepare you for life at MA. I am sure that there are questions you may have which our house parents will be happy to answer.

Each student who is part of our family of boarding students contributes to the spirit and success of the whole community. We rely on your willingness to show concern for all others within our smaller community and within the school at large to help in maintaining a positive, enjoyable, academically stimulating and safe environment for everyone.

A great deal of very important information regarding the school day, the regulations and expectations in the boarding hostels is contained in the BOARDING HANDBOOK. Please read through the handbook with great care. All staff members are prepared to assist you in understanding this information.

In addition to the Boarding Handbook you will have to read The FAMILY HANDBOOK is another separate document which should be read thoroughly by both student/s and their parents.

Again, I welcome you to your new home.

Best wishes,

George Bowery M.ed NPQH
